Tips on how to protect the environment
- Plant trees. They produce oxygen that keeps the air clean.
- Find forms of transportation that don’t use petrol. You can walk or ride a bike when it is possible. It is good both for your health and for the environment. If using a bicycle or going on foot are not good options for you, use public transport instead of driving. If there are fewer vehicles in the street, the air is cleaner.
- Buy less, and you won’t have to throw away things and their packaging. Before buying something, ask yourself if you really need the thing, or you can easily do without it.
- Buy second-hand goods, as production of new goods requires natural resources.
- Save electricity. It is very important for reducing air and water pollution. Turn off the light and electrical appliances when you aren’t using them.
- Use water wisely. Take short showers, turn off the water when you brush your teeth or wash your face. Run a dishwasher or a washing machine only when you fill them up.
- Reduce the use of paper. Paper production emits greenhouse gases, so buy only recycled paper or use only electronic versions of books and documents.
- Use less plastic. When you throw away plastic, it takes a lot of time to break down which is harmful to soil and air. So take your own bag every time you go shopping.
- Recycle your rubbish. Give a new life to glass, plastic and paper. This way you reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfills.
