Study some information about negative sentences in Past Continuous.
Для образования Past Continuous необходимо использовать вспомогательный глагол to be (варианты was, were) и основной глагол, к которому мы добавляем окончание -ing.
Для построения отрицательного предложения нужно использовать следующий порядок слов:
subject \(+\) to be (was/were) \(+\) not \(+\) Ving \(+\) other parts of the sentence.
Was используем для первого и третьего лица единственного числа (I, he, she, it).
Were — в остальных случаях.
Частицу 'not' ставим сразу после вспомогательного глагола, смысловой глагол с окончанием -ing остаётся без изменений.

Examples:
Jim was not reading this book the whole evening.
