The Presentation

Luke was a student at Oakwood High School who worked hard and liked studying. He was very smart and always got high marks in technical subjects like Physics and Mathematics. Despite his academic success, he suffered from extreme social anxiety and felt quite lonely. Whenever a teacher called his name, his heart raced and his face turned red. He preferred to spend his lunch breaks alone in the quiet computer lab. This shyness made him feel isolated from his more outgoing and confident classmates.

One Monday morning, his History teacher, Mr. Evans, announced a major new project. Every student had to give a ten-minute oral presentation about a famous inventor. This specific assignment was worth nearly half of the final grade for the semester. Luke was so nervous that he immediately felt dizzy. He spent the whole evening worrying instead of starting his research. He even considered pretending to be sick to avoid the public embarrassment.

However, the next day, instead of giving up, Luke decided to talk to Mr. Evans privately. He visited the history classroom during the lunch period. He honestly explained that the thought of public speaking terrified him and caused stress. Mr. Evans listened with a kind smile and offered some very helpful advice. He suggested that Luke should use his passion for technology to help himself. If there is a visual show, the audience will look at the screen instead of looking at him.

Luke chose to present the life and various inventions of Nikola Tesla. He spent the next two weeks working late every night in his bedroom. He gathered rare photos, short videos, and even some cool sound effects. He also decided to build a small, working model of one of the inventions. Practicing at home helped him feel more confident about his quiet speaking voice. He realised that being well-prepared made him feel less nervous.

Finally, the day of the presentation arrived and Luke felt quite ready. When it was his turn, he carefully set up his laptop and model. As the lights dimmed, he started his colourful and very informative slideshow. The class was fascinated by the moving animations and the bright model. Luke was able to speak clearly because he knew exactly what to say. He was surprised to find that he actually enjoyed sharing his knowledge.

When he finished his talk, the entire classroom burst into loud applause. Mr. Evans was impressed and gave him an 'A' for his effort and creativity. After that day, Luke felt like a different person. This success changed the way he felt about himself and his school. Luke started taking part in class discussions more often than he ever had. Later that month, he even decided to join the school’s technology club and made some new friends there. He learned that facing your fears is the best way to grow.
